A Peculiar Conversation
Locked in and buckled up with the sounds of the mighty A320 engine propellers rattling the entire cabin as I watch the aircraft bolt across the runway and within a few seconds we are up in the air.....
Cruising at 3000ft above sea level and prepping myself for a 2 hour flight homeward bound with a make do note book and an endless list of repetitive songs.
Nothing unusual about the person sitting beside me.....
A middle aged man, well fed with calories and carbs by the looks of him with neat apparels representing probably a man of a mentally taxing profession.
Reading glasses half way through at eye level peering at the Business times......
When out of the blue he makes a statement "peculiar times we live in"
Unsure of it as a statement or query, I continue to write down my plans in my old note book.
Arranging my thoughts when again comes another question!
Excuse me young lady are you homeward bound?
Well like every body else I seem to avoid talking to strangers but at that instant I replied yes.
He continued to remark what is it that you do? Small talk.
Well actually I am an educator Sir.
At this age. I admire and respect educators. I have a daughter probably 4 years older to you......
I could not help but notice that the gentleman seemed to wear a badge that resembled a wing.
An hour on the flight and after catching a few blinks of sleep the gentle man beside me seemed to be still reading.
Again came forth another query what is it that you teach if I may ask?
Well I am a Grade teacher so I am accountable to teach all subjects.
What of social skills and life long skills?
Well that too.....
You see he goes on to say we live in peculiar times....
A time and age where people follow crowds and have no perspective.
A society with a community of people that have an indecisive future.
where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
With all the questioning I begin to feel a little agitated. Well I see myself still teaching, grown wiser with knowledge and experience probably married.
You see life is unpredictable and everyday has its challenges he says.
Quiet a realist myself I begin to imagine he is going to lecture me about life considering his peculiar statements. My daughters run away from the dinning table as I begin to talk to them about life over dinner. However they fail to understand I only wish to impart knowledge of the higher kind he says.
I hope youre heart is full of content with the fact that you are shaping the lives of the future citizens and of a better tomorrow.
Yes Sir it is, I love what I do and I love walking into a classroom of bursting energy every morning.
You see that is life, to work with compassion. Utilize your youth to be a visionary dream big. Marriage will always come in its own time. Embrace living make mistakes stand for what you believe in. He begins to talk about life as we know it.
My apologies I am Captain Z and I have been a Pilot for 25 years.
So have I noticed Sir, you're wearing an airline pin. Very observant.I am on duty for another sector. Thank you for being so patient with all my talking. Boggled with the random and peculiar conversation.
I begin to wonder as we hear the arrival announcement several people have so many perspectives about life. What truly matters is the power to embrace yourself and deal with challenges as they come to find endless nerves of steel when the walls seem to be crashing down on you.
People change when they face their own emotionally powerful moving experiences. Resilience and a little patience is all I needed to overcome my share of a rough rides.
As I walked towards my family who anxiously await me I realize Life is too short to figure everything out just embrace the moment and make decisions you wont regret.
